Muscle Relaxing Injections using Botulinum TxA (BtxA), often known or referred to as Botox® injections are one of the best known and most popular non-surgical treatments for treating lines and wrinkles caused by smiling, laughing and frowning. Every time you smile or frown, you set off a series of contractions in the underlying muscles of your face. As these muscles expand and contract, they crease your skin with an unflattering pattern of lines.
There are currently 3 main BtxA products used in the UK - Botox/Vistabel, Dysport/Azzalure and Xeomin. Dr Rose can discuss which product will best suit your individual needs.
Btx A is a simple, non-surgical anti wrinkle treatment that can smooth lines for both men and women. It is used to prevent the muscle contractions that cause furrows and fine lines when the face is in motion.
The treatment takes a matter of minutes and involves just a few tiny injections and over a short period of time there’s a noticeable improvement in facial lines, leading to a smoother, more youthful complexion.

What is Btx A (eg Botox®)?
Btx A or Botox® is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe lines and wrinkles
How does it work?
It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes the lines and wrinkles to form. A series of tiny muscle relaxing injections are given to the area requiring treatment. The active ingredient is Botulinum Toxin, which, when used in small doses, reversibly relaxes the muscles underneath the skin that produce lines and wrinkles
What happens during muscle relaxing treatment?
A series of tiny injections using a very fine needle are made into the desired locations.
The volume of liquid injected is so tiny that any discomfort associated with the injections is minimal.
Occasionally a small amount of bruising or swelling may occur at the injections sites, which resolves over a few days.
When will I see results?
Within days, you may see a marked improvement with lines continuing to improve for up to 30 days, and results can last for up to 4 months. Individual results may vary
How long do the results last?
Visible results have been shown to last up to 4 months. Your own results may vary.
Is it painful?
Discomfort is usually very minimal and very brief.
How long does it take?
The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes.
Will I still be able to make facial expressions?
Although the results are visible, a treatment with Btx A will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you’ve “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is temporarily reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows. Individual needs can be discussed and a treatment tailored to suit you.
