As we age, the underlying collagen and fat that keep our skin looking youthful and plump begin to break down, often leaving laughter lines, smile lines, crow’s feet or deep creases. Injectable fillers can help fill these lines and creases, creating smoother contours and a more youthful-looking appearance. Most dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the skin that helps to add volume and hydration.

Dermal fillers integrate with the surrounding tissue, allowing free passage of oxygen and hormones. This results in natural, healthy-looking facial skin. Over time the fillers are broken down by natural biological processes, and removed from the body.

Dr Rose uses three unique types of dermal fillers: the Aliaxin® range, the Juvéderm® VYCROSS® collection, and Viscoderm® Hydrobooster, and will discuss which one is right for you during your consultation.

I am thrilled with the results ... so very natural but has made a difference, just as you described.

Aliaxin®

Viscoderm® Hydrobooster

Viscoderm® Hydrobooster is a stabilised hyaluronic acid injectable product offering a dual function: a biological process of hydration and tissue restructuring, together with a mechanical action to stretch the most superficial wrinkles in a precise and natural way. Together, these actions result in Viscoderm® Hydrobooster’s unique HYDROSTRETCH action. Viscoderm® Hydrobooster is particularly effective on the dynamic areas of the face: around the mouth and eyes, and the forehead.

Questions and answers

What is a dermal filler?

A dermal filler is a smooth-consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the skin that helps to add volume and hydration. The gel is injected into the skin to plump it up, make it firmer, and smooth out lines and wrinkles. The hyaluronic acid within the gel retains moisture within the skin, and increases the skin’s elasticity and tone.

Which dermal fillers does Dr Rose use?

There are many types of dermal filler on the market. Dr Rose uses only the highest-quality, safest products which have proven clinical data to support use and safety, and which consist of synthetically produced non-animal products: the Aliaxin® range, the Juvéderm® VYCROSS® collection, and Viscoderm® Hydrobooster, each with their own specific benefits and indications. Dr Rose will advise on the best product for you.

What happens during dermal filler treatment?

The skin is thoroughly cleansed prior to treatment, and a topical local anaesthetic applied. The dermal filler is injected using an ultra-fine needle or cannula, to plump out lines and wrinkles or to sculpt and volumise areas of volume loss. Injection sites are massaged for even integration of the product into the tissue. The dermal filler then remains in the skin, where it retains moisture to lift and firm the treated area.

How long does the treatment take?

A dermal filler treatment typically takes around 30 minutes.

Is it painful?

Dr Rose will apply a local anaesthetic before treatment, so any discomfort is minimal. Patients may experience a mild stinging or burning sensation during treatment. The fillers are also formulated to contain small amounts of local anaesthetic, further reducing any associated discomfort.

When will I see results?

Results can usually be seen immediately and continue to improve for around a month after treatment.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Typically, the results of dermal fillers last between three and nine months, but this varies from one person to another and also depends on the area treated. Results can last for up to 18 months. The filler is gradually broken down and absorbed by the body, so without top-up treatments to maintain the desired effects the lines, wrinkles or lips will ultimately return to their previous appearance. Dr Rose does not use permanent fillers because of the increased risk of side effects associated with these products.

Are dermal fillers safe? What are the potential side effects?

The dermal fillers Dr Rose uses are extensively clinically tested and extremely safe, with very low complication rates. Some degree of redness and swelling is expected after treatment; this usually resolves within one to two days. More serious side effects are rare. Dr Rose will discuss aftercare instructions and potential side effects with you during your consultation.
