Hyperhidrosis - Treatment for Excessive Sweating
Sweating is a natural and necessary function to control body temperature. However, excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis) is an embarrassing condition that affects a surprising number of people. Heavy perspiration in the armpit area is not only uncomfortable but also unsightly, leading to confidence problems and restricted choices in what to wear.
The condition is quickly and effectively treated using Btx A in the underarm area. A series of injections into both armpits will take less than half an hour and will stop excessive sweating for around 6 months. With repeated treatments, the results may last even longer.
Questions and Answers
How does the treatment work?
The Hyperhydrosis treatment involves an injection of tiny amounts of a muscle relaxant called Botulinum Toxin ( eg Botox ) in a grid pattern over the affected area.
What does the treatment involve?
Following consultation, Dr Rose will perform a painless Iodine-Starch test on the areas to be treated to confirm and “map out” the area of excess sweat activity. The area will then be cleansed and injected with Btx A using a very fine needle.
How long does it take to work?
In most cases, the treatment will take effect within a matter of days, leading to a significant reduction in the amount of sweating.
Does it hurt?
You may experience a small amount of discomfort during the procedure, but in most cases, patients find the treatment virtually painless and no anaesthetic is usually required.
How long does it last
Typically, improvements last around three to six months, and can be repeated as necessary.
